Chrome Canary build introduces feature allowing users to create web pages as apps

With the release of Chrome Canary version 124, users now have the ability to convert any web page into a progressive web app (PWA). The exact timeframe for the rollout of this feature to all Chrome users is still unknown.

To utilize this functionality, users must enable the following flags: chrome://flags/#web-app-universal-install and chrome://flags/#shortcuts-not-apps. Once enabled, the PWA feature can be accessed in the browser's menu located at the top right, under the 'Save and share' section. A tweet from user @Leopeva64 demonstrates how to save a web page as an app here.

Clicking on the app will open the site in its own window. For websites like Reddit and YouTube that already have their own PWAs, users will see the option to download it. This feature is not limited to ChromeOS and also works on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.
