According to financial data shared by Canonical with the UK Companies House, as noted by Phoronix, the company's turnover in 2023 was $251 million, up from $205 million in 2022. The profit for 2023 was approximately $12.5 million, a significant increase from $3.9 million in the previous year. The documents also state that Canonical's board plans to invest a portion of the profits in 'additional r&d'.
The data further reveals that Canonical had an average of 1034 employees in 2023, compared to 858 in the previous year and just 473 in 2019 when the company reported an operating loss of $11 million. Canonical, known for its Ubuntu Linux distribution available for free on desktops and servers, has shifted its focus towards enterprise customers in recent years. They now offer a paid Ubuntu Pro subscription with enhanced support for businesses.
