Network operator TenneT is expecting to make a significant investment of 160 billion euros in the electricity network across the Netherlands and Germany over the next decade. The company plans to install 2500 kilometers of new cable during this period.
According to the annual report for 2023 released by TenneT, it anticipates investing ten billion euros in 2024 alone to enhance the electricity network. This substantial sum is part of the larger 160 billion euro investment plan for the next ten years in both the Netherlands and Germany where TenneT operates.
With a goal to install approximately 2500 kilometers of new electricity cables in the Netherlands by 2045, TenneT also plans to lay down an additional 4800 kilometers of cable in Germany. The company acknowledges the need to build numerous new inverters and high-voltage substations to support this infrastructure development. In 2023,
TenneT already invested 7.7 billion euros, exceeding its initial expectations, largely due to the implementation of the 2GW program. The 2GW program is TenneT's new energy transfer standard that reduces the load on the grid. Earlier this year, TenneT secured a 25 billion euro loan from the Dutch government to further boost its investment in the power network.
